Haddon and His Stockwhip

Here’s my son, Haddon, with the prototype nylon stockwhip that I made for his birthday. He turned 3 on Feb. 21. (Haddon is Kelley child # 3)

Haddon is a real sport. He was very excited about his whip. He calls it his “happy birthday stockwhip.”

Haddon doesn’t know it now, but my whip business a large part of what enables me to provide for him. Every whip I sell helps me take care of my family, so I want to thank everyone out there that has order my whips and helped me provide for them over the years!

George Altman

Here’s a video about Florida whipmaker George Altman.

Thanks goes to Ron Allen for sending me this video.  Now I know, at least according to Altman, that until I start making buckskin cow whips, I’m not really a whipmaker! LOL!

I have 2 Altman nylon cow whips that were sent to me by a fellow in Texas who wants me to sell them for him. He is asking $50.00 per whip. Contact me if you’re interested in purchasing one of them. Here’s a photo of one of the whips so you can see what they look like:

Whips I Finished Today…

4.5 ft snakewhip

8ft black bullwhip

This bullwhip is the first I have made that features a traditional fall hitch instead of the tapered twist that is common on Florida cow whips. (Update: This is now the new standard for bullwhips and snakewhips at Cowwhips.com)

Did you know?

Long before there was a “Wild West,” my native state of Florida had a cattle industry. In the weeks ahead I hope to deal more with this little known fact. In the meantime, check out this article by Trent Loos.
